Computer Specifications to use Space Manager
We are often asked for the specifications required to run Space Manager. There are a number of answers to this and overall it depends largely on whether the machine is a server for the database, a client or acting as both.
The Space Manager program itself requires very little resource to run as most of the processing is done within the database. This means that a client machine that can run Windows 7 onwards should be sufficient. This would be any machine with minimum specifications as follows:
- Windows 7, 8 or 10
- Intel i3 processor or equivalent
- 4GB RAM for Windows 7 or 8 and 8GB Ram for Windows 10
- Screen Resolution 1600x1200
The above machine would also be fine in a single site environment where the machine was acting as the client and server for up to 2 users. Multi site and larger multi user environments will require more resources but this is not a linear projection as a lot of the resources in a PC are required to run windows. By way of an example the following would generally be sufficient for up to 20 users:
- Windows Server 2016 Standard
- 1 x 4 Core Processor such as a Xeon E5
- 8GB RAM
- Screen Resolution 1600x1200
Space Manager itself is a 32 bit program but its database can run as either 32 or 64 bit. The program requires 32 bit versions of any third party systems it integrates with such as Microsoft Outlook. Currently, the general advice is to install the Office package as a 32 bit version, unless there is a specific requirement for the 64 bit version, such as if using very large spreadsheets, over 4GB in size. This would be a very rare occurrence so installing the 32 bit versions makes sense in most cases.
It is always worth checking with the RADical Systems support team to determine if a new machine or server will work in your environment, however the above does give a very good idea of standard requirements.
