How do I archive or hide a site which is no longer in use?

*ISSUE*

A customer had a multi-site database which included one site which had been sold. Whilst they wanted to retain the full historic data in case they needed to look at it later, they wanted to archive the site so that is was no longer available to their users.

IMPORTANT NOTE

On the Site Maintenance window, there is an option to 'Delete' a site. This clearly is NOT the option to choose in this case.

*SOLUTION*

The solution is to 'hide' the site by simply moving any active users, whose home site is the site to hide, over to another active site and then remove rights to this site from all user accounts.

It may be sensible to set up a new User Account with an active site as their home site, but which also has access to the hidden site. Then it is a simple matter of logging in as this new user to look at historic data for the hidden site.

IMPORTANT NOTE

It is important to set this new user's home site as an active site (rather than the hidden site) so that there is much less danger of a user logging in and accidentally running the start-up routines for the hidden site.

IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THAT A FULL AND VALID SPACE MANAGER DATABASE BACKUP IS TAKEN AND VERIFIED AS VALID BEFORE MAKING ANY CHANGES TO THE DATABASE.)
