Mail Merge fields show as {DOCVARIABLE...\ * MERGEFORMAT}

ISSUE:
When inserting mail merge fields onto a document, the display shows something like:
{DOCVARIABLEcus_Fullname\ * MERGEFORMAT}
This is a display issue, when printing out the document the results are fine. On the display, to view the fields properly, you can right-click on the field (might be worth selecting all first) and click 'Toggle Field Codes'.
SOLUTION:
To stop this display from happening altogether, you can click on Word's Page Setup properties (page layout tab), click the Paper tab, click Print Options..., click advanced, untick the box 'Show field codes instead of their values'. On versions of Word pre-2007, the setting would be in a similar location.
